Whats On Live

The good news for proprietors Steve and Claire Love, is that it shouldn’t be too long before just about everybody in the city has heard of their delightful new venue! Set in the heart of Birmingham and overlooking the canal, Loves looks set to challenge the city’s Michelin-starred restaurants - and there’s every chance that the new-eatery-on-the-block could well come out on top! Chef Steve uses only the best ingredients, sourced from many local suppliers, and prepares a range of contemporary British dishes that are an absolute delight. Front-of-house Claire, meanwhile, very much leads from the front. She sets customers at their ease, and the information she provides about the menu ably illustrates just how much pride the couple take in the food they lovingly prepare and serve. The menu bursts with intriguing dishes to tempt the adventurous diner. The a la carte features a selection of starters that includes Jerusalem artichoke risotto, foie gras and chocolate, and a truly delicious coddled egg. Main courses, meanwhile, are beautifully presented, and rich with delicate flavour. Our own choices of the Gloucestershire pork and the Herefordshire beef made for profoundly mouthwatering experiences. The Gloucestershire pork dish featured belly, crepinette, pig’s tail nugget, pease pudding, cider jelly and red cabbage; the Herefordshire beef included ox cheek and tongue, smoked potato mash and celeriac chouxcroute. Both proved to be phenomenal taste experiences. Along with the a la carte menu, Loves also provides a lunch/early dinner menu, a vegetarian menu and a tasting menu. With a two-course a la carte costing £34 and a three-course £38.50, Loves isn’t cheap, but what you’re getting here is a significant culinary experience. It’s a small restaurant, comprising only thirty covers, but this is most definitely one occasion when small really does turn out to be beautiful.
